Violinist Ken Aiso was born in Japan and studied in Tokyo and Dallas before winning an entrance scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Whilst at the Academy, he won a series of prizes for both solo and chamber music performance, and in 1995 was awarded a Meaker Fellowship. He has also recieved international prizes from the Long-Thibaud Competition in Paris and the International Music Competition of Japan. Ken has performed as a concerto soloist with, among others, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. He has been invited to perform at music festivals such as the Menuhin (Gstaad), the Aldeburgh, the Cheltenham and the Sangat (Mumbai), as well as appearing in major concert venues such as the Wigmore Hall and the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. He undertakes an annual recital tour in Japan and has been featured numerous times on national radio in both the UK and Japan. Kenís chamber music partners have included cellist Steven Isserlis and pianists Ian Brown and Simon Crawford-Phillips (with whom he has recorded a CD of French music). Ken fosters a keen interest in new music and cross-over repertoire and has commisioned several works from contemporary composers, notably Jonathon Lloyd, Richard Michael and Alistdair Nicolson. Some of these works feature on a CD ìKite Blancheî, alongside other eclectic repertoire in unusual instrumentations. During the Japan 2001 festival, he was featured as soloist with the Orchestra of theAge of Enlightenment in their innovative Japanese and English programme, which was broadcast on BBC Radio 3. violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin, violinist, violin concerto, violin solo, ken aiso, kite blanche, violin, violinist, violin concerto, violin solo, ken aiso, kite blanche, violin, violinist, violin concerto, violin solo, ken aiso, kite blanche, violin, violinist, violin concerto, violin solo, ken aiso, kite blanche Ken has a strong commitment to educational work - he currently teaches at the Birmingham Conservatoire and has been working with young people in schools in creative music projects. The impeccable ensemble and white heat generated by the performers was unforgettable.î (The Mainichi News, Tokyo, October 1998) "I have been to few solo violin recitals where the performer was able to engage all members of the audience. The recital that Ken Aiso gave in May 2003 (King Charles the Martyr, Tunbridge Wells), which launched the first ever Tunbridge Wells Music Festival, not only managed to achieve this, but it also demonstrated to all who were present, which included a substantial number of schoolchildren, that we were in the presence of a magnificent musician and a natural communicator to audiences of all ages. Whether playing more standard repertoire of Bach or Paganini or lesser known contemporary scores by Alan Ridout and Jonathan Lloyd, Ken Aiso showed an exemplary technique, spontaneity, panache and a strong musical involvement. He is an artist of outstanding ability. I look forward to performing the Beethoven Violin Concerto with him in due course."
